Welcome to Palm Beach

In 1878, and with nature being as opportunistic as Henry Flagler, the coconut-laden Spanish ship Proventia ran aground spilling its contents on a deserted barrier island we now call Palm Beach.

A decade plus a few, with grown and stately palms at the ready, Henry Flagler instantly recognized the potential and went about in grand scale and scope building his next luxury hotel and resort. Indeed, Palm Beach was so attractive, Mr. Flagler established residency.

A century and some has passed, but unlike many other Edens, Palm Beach has done much to preserve the flavor its originator intended.

Palm Beach - richly cultured

Riding around town on bicycles, my 11 year old son stopped and picked up a $20 bill from the ground - those small denominations certainly do crowd up one's wallet.

Restaurants

Cucina Dell 'Arte
This local favorite is popular at all times of day and reservations are accepted - for breakfast, too. Lunch and Dinner served and also popular with many familiar Italian choices. 257 Royal Poinciana Way

Places to Stay

The Four Seasons
You know you're in the lap of luxury when the Four Seasons is the best deal in town - well, it's not really in town, but further south almost in Lake Worth. Cab fare to Worth Avenue comes at a hefty price and offers no cute shopping bag as souvenir. This Five Diamond property is, of course, oceanfront and is elegant in almost every respect. 2800 South Ocean Blvd.

The Breakers
The most famous resort built by Henry Flagler and dates back to 1896. The combination of fine tapestries and hardwoods along with the Italian styling of the main hotel set the stage for one of Florida's top rated resorts. Over 500 units on a beachfront location in the heart of Palm Beach. One South Country Road.

Attractions

Flagler Museum
Built in 1902 and referred to as "Whitehall" this is the home that Henry built. Now open as a museum, its well worth the visit to peer into the past and get a glimpse of what life was like at the dawn of the 20th Century. Also on display is the private rail car of Mr. Flagler. At the intersections of Coconut Row and Whitehall Way
